Native Habitat Organization (NHO)

Texas Rangeland Institute

As part of our mission, Native Habitat Organization recommends establishing a Texas Rangeland Institute. The objective of this initiative is to bring together necessary land, facilities, and expertise for the following purposes:

  1. Building models that demonstrate how agriculture, recreation, and other uses of Texas rangelands can fit into the interactions of soil, water, air, plants, and animals in a natural ecosystem, rather than destroy the system

  2. Developing optimally adapted, general-purpose cattle for rangeland environments and for the production of grassfed beef

  3. Promoting healthy grassfed beef raised by Texas producers who practice sound range management

Recommended meat standards for Texas rangeland beef

Benefits of range-raised, grassfed beef to health-conscious consumers

Three essentials for sound range management

  4. Preserving and propagating native plants and wildlife

  5. Holding short-courses and seminars

  6. Conducting ecosystem studies and other scientific research

  7. Developing sound policies relating to land, water, air, and rangeland agriculture

Such an undertaking will help correct many of the agricultural and ecological mistakes Texas rangeland owners and managers have made in the past.
