Native Habitat Organization (NHO)

Our Mission

The Native Habitat Organization mission is to promote the preservation, restoration, and sustainable use of Texas rangelands for the agricultural, ecological, and social benefit of society. Our organization's approach toward achieving this goal includes but is not limited to the following initiatives:

  1. Building public support for protecting spacious areas of Texas rangeland from habitat fragmentation and other forms of rangeland abuse

Twelve reasons why protecting Texas rangelands is important to society

  2. Managing various size tracts of Texas rangeland HELD IN TRUST for one or more of the following purposes:

    • Preserving open space, natural scenery, and biodiversity
    • Conserving soil, water, and native vegetation
    • Restoring habitat for wildlife and, under certain conditions, for livestock
    • Protecting ecological goods and services
    • Offsetting the negative effects of human caused carbon emissions on the environment by increasing the amount of carbon sequestered in the soil
    • Providing educational and recreational opportunities to the public
    • Growing planting material for range restoration projects

  3. Serving as a source of information for students, owners, and managers of Texas rangeland

  4. Sponsoring programs that give special recognition to owners and managers of Texas rangeland who demonstrate high standards of land ethics

  5. Assisting school curriculums that raise student awareness of the agricultural, ecological, and social importance of Texas rangelands

  6. Helping interested rangeland owners and communities find ways to preserve the natural qualities of their land so their land can continue providing open space, habitat, clean water, clean air, natural scenery, recreation, and other values of public benefit

  7. Pushing for the implementation of polices and programs that offer Texas rangeland owners a financial incentive to improve the ecological condition of their land

  8. Organizing educational events such as Texas rangeland workshops, seminars, field-days, and field-trips

  9. Writing informative articles, brochures, newsletters, and handouts

  10. Collaborating with other organizations having similar goals

Each initiative plays an important role in our organization's mission plan.
